As of yet this lovely lilac coloured rabbit is not yet standardised

This is Tagath who won the Unstandardised section in both the Rare Variety Stock Show and the main show at the Solent  in 2002

The origins of the Halle Pearl Grey are not really known, but it is understood that a Belgian rabbit breeder,  Mr Vervoort of Halle, discovered this unique colour/breed in a litter of Havana's.

These are a timid but laid back rabbit. Very easy to handle and would make a good starter breed. They are small, weighing between 4 to 5lb, with a fine normal length coat. They are short and stocky in body, colour is a soft bluish grey with a light sheen to the coat.

However, there is a discrepancy with the eye colour as the Belgian Standards stipulates this breed has brown eyes. This is genetically impossible since they are a 'dilute' colour (Lilac.

I had seen this rabbit in books and read up on them but never thought I would see one in the flesh. Then I heard that Lew Bevan had brought a couple of pairs into the UK for an auction. A friend of mine acquired a pair, then acquired a second pair later in the year. We received our first pair from him early in the Autumn of 2002. Followed by our first litter that arrived on Xmas Eve 2002.

A proposal put forward by the RVRC recently, recommended that this breed is classified as a Fancy rabbit and not a Fur.
